Tips For Finding The Perfect Bed And Breakfast

Posted on: 20 October 2020

Staying at a bed-and-breakfast can be so much more personal and relaxing than staying at a hotel. However, there is a lot more variety between bed and breakfasts than between hotels. As such, before booking, it is really important to do your research and find a bed-and-breakfast that is suited to your particular needs. Here are some tips to help you with that process.

Check on the menu.

At a bed-and-breakfast, it is typical for guests to be served breakfast in the morning. You want to make sure the breakfast is something you enjoy. If the bed-and-breakfast has their menu posted on their website, you can look this over. If not, just give the place a call. They should pretty easily be able to tell you what they typically serve for breakfast and whether there are any alternatives or other options.

If you have dietary restrictions, definitely call ahead. Some bed and breakfasts may be better able to accommodate those needs than others. You want to find a place where you'll be able to eat and enjoy the breakfast, as that's half the appeal of staying at a B&B!

Look at the layout and how it contributes to socialization.

Look at the floor plan of the bed-and-breakfast. This is often posted on the website, or the B&B may be able to email you a copy of their brochure with the floor plan in it. You don't want to just look at the layout of the room you'll be renting. Look at the layout of the whole home. This tells you a lot. If there's a big living room with a lot of games, for instance, you know that hanging out with the other guests and socializing will be an option. If your roof is located way down the hall and away from shared spaces, you know you'll have more privacy. This is all about personal preference; find a place where the layout seems to allow for the level o socialization you're expecting.

Pull up a map of the area.

Pull up the B&B address on Google Maps, and take a look at the surrounding area. If there are businesses within walking distance, that will result in a very different vibe than if the home is off in the middle of nowhere. Again, there's no right or wrong here — you're just looking for a place that suits your preferences.

Finding the perfect bed-and-breakfast may take a little time, but when you find it, you will know! Enjoy your stay.
