Planning An All-Inclusive Beach Resort Vacation? 3 Things You Need In Your Suitcase

Posted on: 30 July 2015

An all-inclusive resort vacation is the perfect way to take a break from your busy life, mainly because it's so low-stress. The words "all-inclusive" let you know that you don't have to worry as much about extensive planning or complicated arrangements – everything is right there for you. Or almost everything, anyway – you still have to pack your suitcase, and it's not quite as simple as just grabbing your bathing suit and going. Here are a few things you must have in your suitcase when you're headed to an all-inclusive resort.

Sunscreen and Bug Spray

Lounging on the beach or spending the day on the water is fun, but serious sunburns are less fun. You need sunscreen to protect yourself from both the short and long-term effects of overexposure to the sun. Make sure that you pick a waterproof variety, and pack enough so that you can apply it multiple times throughout each day.

If you're traveling to a tropical location, you should also bring bug spray. Warm, humid weather tends to be a breeding ground for all kinds of crawling and flying critters, and some of them bite.

Sure, you can probably buy both sunscreen and bug spray at the gift shop in the resort, but it will be much more expensive than what you can pick out at your nearest corner drugstore. And there's no guarantee that the resort will have your preferred brands in stock.

Resort Casual Clothing

Beachwear alone won't suffice for your vacation – not if you want to eat in the restaurant or participate in any indoor activities. However, if you've never been to a resort before, you may not know what is meant by the recommended "resort casual" clothing.

Resort casual is less dressy than business casual but more dressy than T-shirts and jeans. Think khakis, polo shirts, and buttoned down collars for men, and knee length or tea length skirts and summer dresses for women. It's not a bad idea to pack at least one suit or cocktail dress for fancier evening events.

Waterproof Pack

The beach is no fun if you can't jump in the water whenever you like, but who is going to hold your room key or your wallet while you're in the water? It's hard to go to the beach completely unencumbered – there's always something that you'll need to bring with you. Investing in a waterproof pouch or pack that you can wear or carry in the water will leave you free to go in and out of the ocean as you like, even if you don't have anyone to watch your things.

One more thing that you need to have in your suitcase is empty space. No doubt you're going to be bringing home something – shells from the beach or souvenirs from your adventures. Make sure that you don't overpack, and you'll have the space to bring home all of your treasures.
