Tips For A Smooth Family Travel Experience

Posted on: 9 July 2015

Going on vacation is always fun, but it can also be stressful. No matter how carefully you plan, something always seems to go wrong or just not the way you thought it would. Something like your toiletries spilling out in your luggage is a pain, but it can be prevented. Read on for some helpful travel tips to use when taking your next vacation.

Packing Tips

  • Roll your clothing so it doesn't get too wrinkled in your luggage.
  • Pack clothing that is made of polyester or some other type of synthetic fiber, as it doesn't wrinkle as easy as cotton.
  • When packing toiletries such as shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, place a piece of plastic over the opening and then close the lid. This will help prevent spills.
  • Pack an extra outfit, small toiletries and your valuables in your carry-on. This way if your luggage gets lost, you will have at least a change of clothes and your valuables with you.
  • Bring a collapsible laundry hamper with you to separate dirty clothes when you get to the hotel.
  • Pack extra money inside a clean Chapstick container, rather than in your wallet. In the event your wallet gets misplaced or stolen, you will still have some extra cash stashed away.
  • Bring small snacks with you in your carry-on in case you get hungry on your flight. You can bring a candy bar or a healthy granola bar to help boost your energy.

Hotel/Lodging Tips

  • If traveling with a toddler, you can push the two arm-chairs together to form a bed with a supporting rail. This takes up less space, rather than asking for a cot and keeps your tot out of your bed.
  • Bring bath toys when traveling with a small child to keep bath-time fun.
  • An over-the-door organizer helps keep the bathroom sink from getting too crowded with toiletries and helps to keep your items organized.
  • Extra to-go coffee cups are good to keep on hand, especially if the hotel you are staying in offers a free breakfast. Take coffee to go, rather than stopping for coffee while out.
  • Bring movies with you for lazy days or nights, as most hotels have DVD players in the rooms.
  • Take advantage of the hotel pool. It's a nice way to relax on days when you just want to relax and have fun with the whole family.
  • To help save you money, get a hotel room with a kitchen. This way you can prepare meals in your room, rather than eating out for every meal.

Traveling can be quite a bit of fun. Plan ahead, pack accordingly and remember that you are making memories with your family. And if you're looking for great hotels, consider staying at Main Street Hotel
